Description

These earrings are made with real beetles that date to the 1890s.  At that time the use of beetles in jewelry was quite popular largely on account of the Egyptian Revival movement that frequently utilized the image of the scarab in it's designs.  Traditionally these beetles were mounted in metal to create earrings, hat pins, bracelet and brooches.  This particular pair of earrings represent a modern twist on the classic design with the use of precious metal plated seed bead, pearls and precious gems. Sterling silver ear wires, carnelian embellishment. Hoops measure 13mm in diameter, scarab is approximately 18mm long. Includes a gift box and card explaining the Victorian tradition of using beetles in jewelry.
